Joan K. Bardsley, MBA, RN, CDE, FAADE, is assistant vice president for Core Scientific Services at the MedStar Health Research Institute. In this role, she provides administrative oversight for Core Scientific Services, including the Office of Research Integrity, the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, and the Penn Medical Laboratory. She develops and updates web-based training activities for MedStar Health clinical research coordinators.
Bardsley joined MedStar Health in 1993. Her nursing career began as a senior staff nurse at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston. She later went on to serve as a diabetes teaching nurse at Joslin Diabetes Center, also in Boston. Bardsley later relocated to the Washington, D.C., area to serve as a diabetes educator at George Washington University Medical Center.
Prior to joining MedStar Health, she served as a clinical specialist for industry.
Bardsley is a fellow of the American Association of Diabetes Educators and the current president of the organization’s national chapter. She was a faculty member for Frontline Diabetes for the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors and serves as a member of the Health Care Management Advisory Board within the College of Health Professions at Towson University, Maryland. Bardsley received a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of valuable service on the Congress on Nursing Practice and Economics.
Bardsley has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston College and a Master of Business Administration, with concentration in marketing and organizational behavior, from The George Washington University.
