All 10 MedStar hospitals are recognized by the Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders (NICHE) program for exceptional care for older adults.
Five MedStar hospitals — MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, in Baltimore, Md., MedStar Montgomery Medical Center in Olney, Md., MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, in Clinton, Md., MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, in Baltimore, Md., and MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.— have achieved "exemplar" status, the highest level of recognition bestowed by NICHE. All other MedStar hospitals have achieved Senior Friendly status, the next highest level of recognition.
NICHE is the leading nurse-driven program designed to help hospitals improve care of patients 65 and older. This recognition means that MedStar hospitals are committed to providing nurse-led, evidence-based care of elder adults. By accessing training, tools and resources, and by sharing information, knowledge and expertise, our hospitals pursue ongoing improvement in the quality of care and patient experience for geriatric patients.
